Sveconek LLC offers a high capac-ity workholding system that can hold up to 10 parts in a single acting ma-chinist vise. “No need to create fixtures and laboriously tighten and loosen a screw for every part being held,” said a com-pany spokesperson. “Simply replace your jaw plates with Sveconek alu-minum jaw plates, load the parts, and tighten the vise handle plus one ad-ditional screw.” The systems feature an array of floating jaw plates that fit between and interact with the existing movable and fixed jaw plates of the vise. The system is an easy to mount and simple to use accessory that fits most 6” vises, and is offered in dif-ferent sized kits to accommodate vari-ous sizes and shapes of parts. The components of the kits are offered indi-vidually to add to and further expand the machinist’s workholding needs. “Sveconek’s systems hold up to 10 parts as accurately and repeatably as two parts being held in a conventional vise,” said the spokesperson. “The mul-tiple clamping and unclamping opera-tions that occur over a production run are simple to execute and do not di-minish the system’s performance.” All kits and components are of-fered in three versions: • 7075 aluminum jaw plates with an “integrated step” for typical first opera-tions that hold on sacrificial material. Step dimensions: 0.125” wide x 0.115” deep, step seat re-sides 1.6350” +/-0.0005” above vise ways. Overall dimen-sions: 1.25” x 1.75” x 6.0”. Jaw plates are anodized for lifelong protection. • 7075 aluminum jaw plate blanks are ma-chinable for part spe-cific needs. Overall dimensions: 1.00” x 1.75” x 6.0”. Jaw plates are anodized for life-long protection. • 6061 aluminum jaw plate blanks are machinable for part specific needs. Overall dimensions: 1.00” x 2.00” x 6.0”. 6061 jaw plates are intended to be carved again and again to accommo-date workholding needs. Jaw plates are anodized for lifelong protection. The Sveconek system fits most sin-gle and dual acting vises, such as Kurt Workholding, Kurt Vise, Kurt High Density Workholding, Kurt DX6, Kurt D688, Jergens Vise, Teco Vise, Glacern Vise and Chick Workholding. The class will include lectures and hands-on equipment demon-strations to help students expand their understanding of surface roughness concepts and applications. “The May 2022 class is designed for engineers, technicians and researchers working in automotive, aerospace, mate-rials, medical devices, polymers and other fields,” said Don Cohen, PhD, who will present the course. “It has been over two years since we have been able to present this class in-person. The live for-mat can be more engaging, and it enables immediate question-and-answer feed-back. The additional workshop compo-nent will give attendees a chance to get hands-on training with measurement equipment such as optical profilers, tri-bology testers and 3D scanners.” The class will offer a deep dive into course topics, including: • Measuring roughness and waviness • Surface measurement instruments • How to correctly set filters for texture measurements • Data analysis techniques and tools • Surface texture parameters • How to specify surface texture • How surface texture relates to wear, www.mfgnewsweb.com 4 April 2022 • MIDWEST MANUFACTURING NEWS • www.mfgnewsweb.com sealing and other functionality • Surface energy, adhesion and texture, paint appearance • Mechanics of dry friction and rolling friction • Fundamentals of lubrication • Surface metrology strategy. “We have been holding classes in surface metrology and tribology for over 15 years,” said Dr. Cohen. “Our students report that the in-person format helps them to focus, understand and retain this fundamental information.” Registration requests can be made by emailing info@michmet.com.
