SM CTL-Americas recently hosted its H eav y Metal Open House at its headquarters in City of Industry, CA. The event featured special pricing on inventory, machine and tech nology demos and educational seminars.
Machines demonstrated included:
• VMC 850 E CNC VM C w ith X, Y, Z travels of 33.4" x 19.7" x 21", 8,000 RPM spindle speed and FAN UC O i-M ate control
• VM C 850B CNC VMC w ith 33.4" x 22" x 25.5" X, Y, Z travels, 10,000 RPM spindle and Fanuc Oi control
• VMC 1000B CNC VMC with 39.3" x 24" x 25.5" X, Y, Z travels and 10,000 RPM spindle equipped w ith Coolantthru spindle
• VM C 1600B / 50T CNC VM C w ith 63" x 31.5" x 31.5" X, Y, Z travels, 25 hp spindle, 50 taper tool shank equipped with 32 tools
• TC 500R CNC high speed drill/ tap center with 19.6" x 15.7" x 11.8" X, Y, Z travels, 20,000 RPM spindle speed and 21 tool capacity turret-type servo tool magazine
• VivaTurn 4CM CNC horizontal turning center with 40 hp spindle motor, 3,000 RPM spindle speed and a 2.6" bar capacity.
A dditionally dem onstrated were the i5 T5 turning center and the i5 M4 VMC both featuring SMTCL's new i5 control. "The i5 control will revolutionize m anufacturing by its ease-of-use and its highly rated performance," said Jerry McCarty, Chief Operating Officer, SMTCL-Americas. "In addition, it will provide accurate inform ation directly into manufacturing production systems which otherwise had to be entered manually by machine operators. The ability of the i5 control to work in lights out operations will make SM TCL machines more productive and less costly."
Educational seminars held included:

• Breakthroughs in Aerospace Tooling presented by Sandvik Coromant
• Machining with High-Pressure Coolant System presented by ChipBlaster
• Conversational Program ming presented by FANUC.
