The NTMA is an association of cus-tom precision component manufactur-ers in the U.S. “Although many are small business owners, this sector gen-erates more than $40 billion annually,” said an NTMA spokesperson. “We do a lot of training here at ISCAR,” Zimmerman said. “Through-out the U.S., we train about 1,000 cus-tomers a year. Training is available to Continued on Page 76 Jenoptik offers the Hommel-Etamic Toposcan, a system used for measuring the surface of cylinder bores larger then 60 mm in diameter. The Toposcan is ca-pable of automatically measuring the size of porosity and blow holes, stroke reversal radius, laser pocket structures, roughness of bore walls, torn and folded metal and cross-hatch angles. It can be used either for R&D tasks or in the pro-duction line. Optical testing of bore surface struc-ture characteristics and tactile meas-urement of surface roughness is accomplished with a compact 60 mm measuring probe. It offers optical zoom from 30 to 210x for inspecting even the finest structures. Complete evaluation of the cylinder surface is accomplished Continued on Page 76 Cutting Tools An anti-rotation stopper designed into the toolholder provides insert immobility and system rigidity.
