“Recent events, the economic downturn that has affected us all, have created new opportunities. It is time to take control and cut chips again,” said Ken Kalmanek. Ken and his business partner Adam Wirries recently formed KalmanekManufacturing, a high-precision job shop.Ken Kalmanek, machinist by trade, has most recently been a successful machine tool salesman and before that an application engineer. “We plan to run a Just In Time (JIT) system with an emphasis on quick turnaround, rapid response manufacturing Of small to medium parts of all materials and industries,” said Ken Kalmanek, Co-owner of Kalmanek Manufacturing. “We needed equipment that was readily available and userfriendly to help ease the pressure of starting a new business. Although this is not the first shop either of us have built, it is our first time at ownership. Now that the machines are installed it is time to focus on getting the work to keep them busy and pay the bills.” “We considered both new and used equipment for building our shop,” saidAdamWirries, Co-owner of Kalmanek Manufacturing. “With the amount of experience that we both bring to the table, multi-tasking and software were not a problem. We have 63 years of combined experience between us.” “We decided on new equipment for our CNCmachines because the cost was right,” said Ken. “Service andwarranty were all concerns with the machines. We purchased a Hyundai-Kia VX500 vertical machining center with 4th axis capability and an SKT 250 slant lathe fromHillaryMachinery. Our goal is to target small to medium parts in the oilfield, medical and robotic industries. With our SKT 250 we have amaximum diameter of 29.5 inches and up to 28 inches of turning length. Our VX500 has a 10,000 RPM spindle with thru-spindle coolant, 20 x 40 inch table travel and a 4th axis to maximize machine efficiency. With these machines we can offer our customers absolutely the best quality machining possible with a quick turnaround.” Ken Kalmanek’s background includes seven years as a manual machinist, nine years as a CNC programmer and operator with aerospace, semiconductors and medical components, 14 years of applications and five years of machine tools sales. Adam Wirries has 30 years of machining Experience in the manufacturing of piece parts for aerospace, semiconductor and medical industries. His motto is “if you can drawit I canmake it.”Although Kalmanek Manufacturing is brand-new both Ken and Adam have much more planned in the coming months, this includes a manual mill and lathe, welding, machined parts assembly and ISO certification. “Our goal at KalmanekManufacturing is tomake an honest living providingmultiple industries with quality machined components and great customer service,” said Ken. Kalmanek Manufacturing is having a Grand Opening Open House on June 17, 2010.
