Hwacheon introduced 11 new machines at SIMTOS 2010. SIMTOS is the Seoul InternationalMachine Tool Show held every two years in Seoul, South Korea. Hwacheon’s new technology will also be introduced to the U.S. at IMTS 2010. The new Hi-Tech 850L large highperformance CNC lathe with 60 HP spindle motor can be ordered with up to a 32” chuck. It is designed with a four-speed gear boxwrapped around a temperature controlled spindle, which allows a true transfer of horsepower and torque directly to the cutting process. A dead centered tailstock is standard for better heat absorption in the Z-axis and creates high stability when turning large heavy parts. The tailstock center will adjust as the part being machined heats and grows. The newMega II series heavy duty CNC lathe can be configured for parts up to three meters in diameter and up to 17 meters length. The tailstock is designed to adjust with the thermal growth of a part being machined. With part diameters becoming larger and larger Hwacheon is expanding its VTL product line to include the new VTM 2000, which has amaximum diameter capacity of 2.5 meters, includes 50 taper tools and uses a onepiece column structure controlled by two ball screws and servo motors for variable positioning of the cross rail. “The 1,100mm of stroke of the W-axis is the best in its class,” said Mark Leeser, National Sales Manager, Hwacheon Machinery America. In addition to the VTM 2000, Hwacheon’s Changwon manufacturing facility has completed an expansion allowing the production of new oversized VTL’s with diameter capacities projecting to reach eight (8) meters. At SIMTOS, the newHVT 4550was showcased. It is a massive vertical lathe designed for machining a diameter up to 5 meters. It is designed with a rigid double column frame and utilizes integrated hydrostatic bearings in the 4. 5-meter table. The Fanuc table motor is 145 kW and contains 139,000Nm of torque. The HVT series will feature movable and non-movable railmodels. Hwacheon has entered the job shopmachining centermarketwith the new2010 Vesta verticalmachining center series, which includes both a boxed and roller guide way series. “Strong and rigid castings built by Hwacheon machinery include high RPM and heavy torque variations and a special way lube and coolant separation designed structure to prevent contamination causing polluting and offensive odors. The Vesta 610D is designedwith dual tables for high production capabilities,” said Mr. Leeser. A special Hybrid Kinematics Machining Center, the M9 5AX, features a spindle mounted on a variable 5-axis horizontal tripod base andwith a pallet changer for productivity. This is true 5 axis machining. Hwacheon Machinery America is the importer of machines from the Hwacheon Machine Tool Company of Korea. U.S. models of turning centers range from 6” to 72” chuck CNC turning centers and centers distance to 17 meters. Both 40 and 50 taper vertical machining centers are available.
