Marathon Machine Tools has introduced CNC horizontal boring mills. With the cooperation of exclusive American importer of Fermat, Lucas Precision, Marathon Machine Tools represents the traditional European manufacturer Fermat in the South Texas and SW Louisiana area. The Fermat Company specializes in table type and floor type horizontal boring mills. The product range includes 3. 4” 4.3”, 5.1”, 5.9”, 6.3” and 6.7” spindle machines, both in box way, heavy duty linear roller way and hydrostatic design. The modular system of production, experienced engineers and technicians allows Fermat to supply machines according to customer ’s needs. Fermat facilities are located in various parts of the Czech Republic, the most important centers can be found in Brno and in Prague. Recently Fermat acquired several traditional manufacturers like Pressl Company in Pilsen and Strojtos Lipnik to increase the production facilities. The flagship product of the Fermat line is the table type WFT-13 model. Annually, over 80 pieces of WFT-13 are sold worldwide. These machines are built with heady duty, extra wide box way construction, glass scales on all axes, standard continuous CNC rotary table with 33,000 or 44,100 lb of table load, 50/75 HP spindle power, 5.1” spindle quill with a stroke of 28.7”. If necessary the headstock can also be equipped with a RAM spindle with 23. 6” RAMtravel. As a unique feature, the WFT-13 provides a C-axis spindle control and thus can perform large diameter turning operations using the simultaneous movement of the X, Y and C axes, eliminating the need for a facing head. “The Czech WFT-13 boring mill with 5.1” spindle competes in price with similar size Japanese and Korean 4” spindle models. The WFT-13 features higher spindle power, heavier construction and standard accessories such as coolant thru spindle, 40 ATC and a heavier load rotary table with two pinion and two servo motor design,” said George T. All the Fermat floor type 5.9”, 6.3” and 6.7” spindle models are offered with RAM and Quill spindle design providing ram travel up to 47” and quill stroke up to 40”. These machines also feature two or three Y-axis ball screws with their own servo motors, from 55,100 to 110,200 pound rotary table load capacity, 80/107 Hps pindle motor coupled with a ZF gearbox and linear scales on all axes. Available options include manual and automatic universal heads with 2.5 and 1 positioning, micro indexing automatic universal head, U-axis heads, pallet changers and ATC up to 120 tool capacity. The Fermat machines are offered with Fanuc 31-i, Heidenhain 530 iTNC or Siemens 840D controls. Marathon Machine Tools provides full service and application support for the Fermat machines.
