The National Tooling and Machining Foundation (NTMF) has awarded Richland College a grant in the amount of $15,000. The grant was submitted by the North Texas Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA) and was written in support of the Richland College STEM Rocket Camps to be held June 2013. The award will fund material and supplies for the camp rocket projects, materials and supplies for two launch pads, an awards celebration to celebrate student successes, student supply costs and offset enrollment costs for parents. During the three-week camp, middle and high school students explore fields of study including aerospace, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering; CAD/CAM manufacturing; engineering and manufacturing technology; and Web design and multimedia. Brian Fleming, Richland STEM camp director and engineering technology professor, worked closely with Karla Chandler, Education Liaison - NTMA North Texas, for a year on the grant proposal. “Having a partner like the NTMA has been invaluable,” saidMr. Fleming. “They offermaterials and full-semester scholarships to our college students. They give me as much support as possible.” The grant was presented during a recent North Texas NTMA Chapter meeting held at Manda Machine.
