Tungaloy launched the new RoundSplit series of radiusmilling cutters. The new RoundSplit range is designed to incorporate serrated inserts to reduce vibration and cutting forces as well as improve chip evacuation for long overhang applications. TheRoundSplit series is available as a bore type or as a shank type cutter with a standard, long or extra long length shank formachining cavitiesand intricate components. The standard shank type cutter has a 5” overall lengthwith the long and extra long series having a 6” and 12” overall length respectively. The three shank type variations are available with 1.25” and 1.5” diameter rangewith the option of two, three or four inserts for amultitude of cutting applications. While the shell type cutter has diameter range from 2.0” to 5.0”with cutting Heads offering between four and eight inserts for heavy metal removal rates. Both cutter types utilize Tungaloy’s unique insert design that holds the insert remarkably tight in the cutting head to improve rigidity and clamping, the company said. The complete range has through holes for air cooling to remove chips from the working area. The round MJ inserts can be indexed eight times with the serratedNMJ inserts for generalmachining and the NAJ inserts for aluminumhaving the ability to be indexed four times. The new insert designations are designed to reduce spindle load by up to 25%. The RCMT16 type inserts can cut at up to .315” depth while machining at a feed rate beyond 0.025 IPT, the company said. The new series of inserts is available with Tungaloy’s AH725, AH120 AndAH140 coated grades as well as the formidable KS15F carbide grade. This new RoundSplit cutter has been developed to machine low and high carbon steel, alloy, tool and stainless steel as well as grey and ductile iron, aluminum alloys and heat resistant alloys. Regardless of thematerial to bemachined, the new RoundSplit is designed to improve chip evacuation, productivity and surface finishes. “The ability of the serrated inserts to improve chip removal enables the RoundSplit to reduce spindle load, reduce chatter and improve finisheswhen machining cavities,” said a company spokesperson.
